OESTRUS CYCLE

Sows have a cycle similar to the menstrual cycle of human females, only it is much shorter and there is no loss of blood.  Most  people refer to it as their ‘season’ and it is only when they are at the height of it, which is every fifteen to seventeen days, that they are fertile, and even then only for ten to fifteen hours. They will display sexual behaviour very similar to that which a boar displays when he is first put in with a sow, for between twenty-four and thirty-six hours.
